About the Focal 8WM

Focal’s top-of-the-line Utopia Focal 8WM speaker line exemplifies their commitment to musical excellence, and their new Utopia M Series speakers use innovative materials and a revolutionary style to provide you with the best Focal has to deliver.
The 8WM 8″ component woofer is handcrafted in France and features the latest “M”-profile one-piece cone for optimum rigidity, adding top-of-the-line technology to a lightweight speaker that works in many vehicles.

Superior Cone Design

Focal’s plastic sandwich “W” cone has an extra layer of rigidity thanks to a layer of sturdy structural foam sandwiched between two layers of precision-coated glass.

A butyl rubber surround keeps the cone in place, and the aluminum basket provides the woofer with rock-solid power and weight. The “M-profile” cone, designed to remove the need for a dust cap, combines lightness, rigidity, and superior damping for extremely precise, “true-to-life” results.

Extreme Bass

With a mounting depth of just 2″, this woofer will replace the 8″ speaker used in certain vehicles or be part of a custom system, providing a significant sound enhancement when combined with other Focal components.
This powerful speaker can accommodate up to 100 watts RMS, so we suggest driving it with an outboard amplifier for the best results. Move beyond the ordinary to visit Utopia for the ultimate musical experience.

‘M’-profile ‘W’ sandwich cone

The new, patented, ‘M’-profile cone is the result of many years of research and our expertise in materials and their geometry. The innovative ‘M’-profile, made from a single piece, means it is incredibly rigid and perfectly combines the three criteria essential for creating an “ideal” speaker driver: rigidity, lightness, and damping. The result is the extremely linear frequency response, a low distortion rate, and better sound dispersion.

Upon listening, this cone delivers striking realism and a level of detail, that transports you into the heart of music.

TMD® surround

Originally developed for the Sopra line of high-fidelity loudspeakers, our TMD® (Tuned Mass Damper) surround has a unique profile, designed to better control the effects of resonance and to drastically reduce the distortion associated with deformations of the cone. The speaker driver takes advantage of this patented technology by spreading better defined and very realistic midranges’ frequencies.

Progressive spider

The progressive spider used on all our Utopia drivers is built around a progressive section that reproduces all the impact of the bass whilst optimising the linearity, precision and dynamics of the sound.

Car Audio Your Way

This component speaker was designed to be part of a Focal Utopia M system, incorporating these other high-performance speakers:

• TBM 1″ tweeters
• 3.5WM 3-1/2″ midrange driver
• 6WM 6-1/2″ component woofer
• SUB10WM 10″ dual 4-ohm component subwoofer

These components will deliver the ultimate in-car audio performance, whether you install them in factory speaker locations or use them for a custom installation. The grille is sold separately.

Installation Note: You’ll need an active crossover for this woofer, as Focal doesn’t include a passive crossover.
