Alberta Tint Laws
In Alberta, there are no laws against the installation of tint, therefore legally, the responsibility is on the owner. Tint tickets are $78 but often, police will often give drivers a warning to take the tint off. When the driver can show the tint is removed, they won’t issue the violation.

New Tint Do's & Don'ts
Do NOT roll down your windows!
Although newly tinted windows provide immediate benefits, the glue that adheres the film to the glass does not cure instantly. It can take two to four days for the tint to set, and if you roll your windows down before that time, the tint may peel.
Hazy Film or Water Bubbles
The last thing you’d anticipate from freshly tinted windows is haziness and possibly small water pockets forming beneath the film, but don’t try to fix it or assume improper installation.
This is perfectly normal—and just temporary. Because the squeegee used to apply the film can’t get every last drop, your windows may appear hazy or clouded for the first few days following installation due to surplus water between the glass and film. But don’t worry—window film is porous, and the water will evaporate on its own, even if it collects in small pockets.
The time it takes to evaporate depends on the weather—hot, sunny surroundings dry the film the fastest, but it might take anywhere from two days to a month in general.
Wait to clean your windows.
Wait a few days before going to the car wash because the tinted film needs to cure. When you do clean them, a light wipe with a microfiber cloth or soft paper towel should suffice, as the tint is applied on the inside of the window rather than the exterior, where road debris and pesky birds represent a severe threat.
If you have sticky-hands kids or wet-nosed dogs, your windows may require a more vigorous clean now and then, and for that, we recommend a soft, non-abrasive cloth or paper towel and any cleaner without ammonia (we’re looking at you, Windex, though the brand does offer vinegar and citrus varieties with no ammonia). There are even cleaners designed expressly for tinted windows on the market, but a simple solution of soap and water or vinegar and water will suffice. Just remember: NO AMMONIA—it will destroy your tint.
Tint is NOT Indestructible.
The scratch-resistant coating on our high-quality tint products is ideal for protecting your car windows from everyday wear and tear—as well as kids and pets if you have them. However, keep in mind that scratch-resistant does not imply scratch-proof. Even if young fingers and paws aren’t an issue, there are various ways to scratch the film unintentionally.
When loading and unloading anything with sharp or hard edges, such as boxes or athletic equipment, be cautious and keep an eye out for an unexpected culprit: your seat belt. When taking the belt on and off, people frequently don’t realize how often the metal buckle dings the window, and it only takes one ding to rip your tint.

Turn to us at the Car Salon for a customized window film service that goes farther and beyond. In Calgary and the surrounding areas, our team handles car, truck, and boat window films as well as auto paint protection, vinyl signs, safety film, and simulated etched glass services. No matter what service you need, to create the custom tints you want, you can trust us to pay close attention to the details of your project.
There are two main window film types. They are metallic and non-metallic. They have metalized films with a silver “shine.” Some of them are very minimal, while others are more noticeable.
They continue to keep out much more heat and UV (ultraviolet light that’s what splits and destroys upholstery, dashboards, etc…) because they reflect back from the vehicle. Non-metalized films also hang on to heat and UV, but they do not have a bright “shine” and appear to them more “flat.”
You will be shown all the unique shades and degrees of tinting when you arrive in for your appointment. We’re going to clarify all the regulations and create suggestions depending on the color and years of your car. With knowledge of what looks flattering on your vehicle. We carry the most common shades, but we do not normally stock other shade of films (silver, red, etc.)

Is ceramic tint worth the price?

Tint Windows
Have you ever taken a drive downtown on a slow, quiet day and had a terrible sense of being watched? Or worse … followed? Maybe it’s just all those films you’ve watched, but the reality is, bad things are happening in poor neighborhoods.
For this single reason, you might even consider tinting your vehicle … What you may not know, though, is all the other excellent reasons you want to tint.
- Hate getting into a hot vehicle and sweating on the way to work or seeing friends and family across the city? Even when parked straight out in the scorching summer sun, vehicle tint can keep your vehicle up to 60% cooler.
- Do you often drive in the sun without sunscreen on your arms or neck? Quality automotive tint blocks up to 99% of UV rays, so you’re not going to have to worry about skin cancer, natural skin damage, or accelerated aging.
- While the rising / setting sun shines directly through your windshield and into your eyes, do you ever discover driving difficult? Car tint prevents glare from the sun, snow, and even from the headlights at night.
