GPS Tracking
GPS tracking systems are popular with fleet managers who need to know the location of livery and delivery vehicles throughout the day. If you manage even a small fleet of vehicles for your family or your business you may find GPS tracking systems helpful.GPS tracking can be a useful add-on to a security alarm system that can help the police find and recover your vehicle if it is stolen.
There are two basic kinds of vehicle tracking systems: active and passive. A passive system uses a GPS receiver to record the location of a vehicle as it is driven. Once the route is completed, the tracker can be removed and the data downloaded to a computer for viewing and analysis. The data can include the route, average or instantaneous speed, the location of stops and the opening and closing of doors. This can be helpful in making future routing changes to increase efficiency and to keep track of employee whereabouts.
An active system monitors the same activities and information. Instead of the data being available only upon arrival at the destination, the data is transmitted via satellite or over a cellular network to a computer or a smartphone in real time. This can be useful for the dispatch of an employee already in route or as a way to keep track of drivers for safety reasons. Both systems can help to locate a stolen vehicle.
Some GPS tracking systems may be designed to work in conjunction with a GPS navigation device, or a security alarm. Your local expert can suggest a system that incorporates any or all of the security and convenience features you may find useful.
