The Car Salon Tire Craft Division is the leading engine diagnostics shop in Calgary, AB. When a vehicle isn’t running properly, often times it’s necessary to have diagnostic and performance tests performed on the engine. A mechanic needs to find thengine-diagnostic-300x219e source of the problem to know which part(s) need to be repaired or replaced to fix your vehicle and have it running properly again. Our mechanics at The Car Salon Tire Craft Division in Calgary, AB provide engine diagnostic and performance services on almost all makes and models of cars and light trucks.
If the engine is in good working condition, the device will inform our mechanics. If there is a problem, one or several codes may be displayed.
During an engine diagnostic or performance test, the mechanic determines what is causing each code to display and codes can mean a wide variety of things. Determining the cause will help the mechanic provide an estimate to let you know how much it will cost and how much time it will take to address the problem. Sometimes, the issue is simple, while in other cases, it can be very complex. Some, or more frequent, reasons that cars are brought in for diagnostic testing are:
“Check Engine” Light – People often take a vehicle in for service if the “Check Engine” light on their dash comes on. The “Check Engine” light can come on for a variety of reasons. Some are very easy to fix, such as resetting a sensor or performing an oil change. Others are more complex and require one or more items to be repaired to correct the problem. If there is a serious problem with the vehicle, the sooner the vehicle comes in for engine diagnostic testing, the better, as problems often times worsen over time.
The vehicle isn’t running well – Sometimes, even though no warning light on the dashboard comes on, the vehicle just isn’t running right. It is also helpful to tell the mechanic how long the driver has noticed the problems with the performance of the vehicle. A mechanic can run engine diagnostic and performance testing and see if any codes are returned. If so, those engine codes very likely will indicate what the problem is so that it can be fixed and then the vehicle will run properly again. It is important to note that simply having a mechanic clear the code that was discovered during engine diagnostic testing without fixing the problem can sometimes cause the vehicle to fail safety emissions testing in the future.

The Car Salon Tire Craft Division is the leading enginengine-tune-upe tune-up shop in Calgary, AB. When a vehicle’s engine isn’t performing as it should, or if you noticed decreased gas mileage, it may be time for an engine tune-up. Engine tune-ups should be done on all vehicles periodically to ensure that the filters on your vehicle are not blocked, that the spark plugs are firing correctly and are not cracked, that the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valves are in good working order, and that the fuel injectors are not blocked. All of these can factor can contribute to poor engine performance and reduced gas mileage. Our mechanics in Calgary, AB provide engine tune-ups on almost all makes and model of cars and light trucks.
There are many complex working parts in your engine. These parts all work together to ensure that your vehicle runs properly. With time and mileage, these components can become blocked and/or start to wear out. When this happens, it is time to take your vehicle in for an engine tune-up. It is important to note that even if your vehicle is running well, the manufacturer of your vehicle has made recommendations as to when engine tune-ups should be performed on your vehicle. Refer to the owner’s manual that came with your vehicle for these recommendations. If you notice any of the following with your vehicle, it may be time for an engine tune-up:
Decreased gas mileage – A decrease in gas mileage could be the result of a blocked air or fuel filter. If your vehicle isn’t getting enough air, the engine won’t perform as it should, which means it is not running at peak performance. Both the air filter and fuel filter are replaced as part of an engine tune-up.
A decrease in power – A decrease in power could be the result of a blocked, broken, and/or malfunctioning filter, spark plug, Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve or fuel injector. If the fuel isn’t getting into the engine properly, the engine will not output the power that it should. The spark plugs are replaced and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valves may be checked as part of an engine tune-up.
Vehicle stalls and/or makes noise (sputters/knocks) – When a vehicle stalls and/or sputters, it can oftentimes be a result of fuel not properly going into the engine or the spark plugs not functioning correctly, which may be the result of a blockage in the system. The air and fuel filters are changed, the spark plugs are replaced, the fuel injectors are checked, and the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valves may be checked as part of an engine tune-up. We are a full-service car care center in Calgary, AB. We service all vehicle makes and models and our mechanics are familiar with most manufacturer engine tune-up recommendations.
