Build your Dream System
For the purist, Car Salon carries Hertz ML 1650.3 6-1/2″ component speaker system. This wonderfully built kit, capable of handling up to 150 watts RMS, provides you with the resources to build something completely unique in your car. So stop daydreaming… breathtaking sound is just a click away.
Premium Components
The MLCX 2 TW.3 crossover system, which enables bi-amplification, tweeter level correction, off-axis improvement, and a useful set of crossover point adjustment equipment, is the system’s star. This crossover system’s premium components lead to the woofer’s impressive low-frequency response as well as a seamless transition to the expanded frequency range of the low-distortion Tetolon dome tweeter.
Quality Speaker Construction
An aluminum alloy speaker basket with built-in venting provides a strong, smart base for the 6-1/2″ woofer’s impressive efficiency. To transfer more air with greater precision, Hertz employs a “Boundary Free” rubber surround with its improved pressed pulp and cotton fiber woofer. The V-cone configuration of the woofer increases dispersion and contributes to audible lows. Superior damping is also important to the sound of these speakers; reduced resonance decreases distortion for a more realistic sound.

Boundary Free Surround: higher cone surface area technology- allowing the ability to move more air. Thermal and mechanical linearity is assured due to the surrounds fabricated with butyl rubber.
Klippel Verified: The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and computer software to do a large-scale analysis of drivers in motion. The KDA helps Hertz optimize the speaker’s motor composition, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the stablest possible execution.
Tweeter Mounting: The ML 280.3 tweeters are designed to flush mount using the included clamps. They can also be mounted to many factory tweeter brackets using the M3 threaded insert on the back of the tweeter housing.
Tweeter Dimensions:

Mounting Height | 0.618″ |
Mounting Depth | 0.703″ |
Frame Diameter | 2.101″ |

Crossover Settings:
- Tweeter Level: 3-position switch on each crossover; set the output level of the tweeter to -2 dB, 0 dB, or +2 dB; Hertz recommends 0 dB when the tweeters are mounted off-axis (relative to the listeners) and -2 dB when the tweeters are mounted on-axis
- Bi-amp Inputs: each crossover has bi-amp inputs, separate inputs for the woofer and tweeter; set the switch to On when using the bi-amp inputs
- Mid Contour: On/Off; low-pass crossover point set to 2.5 kHz (On) or 3.5 kHz (Off); 6 dB/octave in both positions; in most installations Hertz recommends the 3.5 kHz (Off) setting
- Hi-Contour: On/Off; high-pass crossover point set to 2.5 kHz (On) or 3.5 kHz (Off); 12 dB/octave in both positions; in most installations, Hertz recommends the 3.5 kHz (Off) setting
- Hi-Boost: On/Off; leave off if tweeters are mounted on-axis (relative to the listeners); turn on if tweeters are mounted off-axis; improves the linearity of the frequencies above 10 kHz when the tweeter is mounted off-axis
Wiring: The crossover inputs and outputs are set screw terminals; they will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge.
Crossover Dimensions:
- Width: 7.1″
- Height: 1.6″
- Depth: 4.71″
Mighty tools for ideal quality
Hertz designed their MLK 1650.3 6-1/2″ component speaker system for wielding up to 150 watts RMS.
Premium components
MLCX 2 TW.3 crossover system is capable of bi-amplification, tweeter level adjustment, off-axis improvement, and a selection of crossover point adjustment tools. The premium components of this crossover system contribute to the woofer’s impressive low-frequency response and to a smooth change to the extended frequency range of the low-distortion Tetolon dome tweeter.
A solid, smart foundation for an effective performance from the 6-1/2″ woofer is equipped with an aluminum alloy speaker basket with built-in venting. The woofer’s V-cone design enhances diffusion and supports lows you can sense.

Technologies
-
V-CONE®
The exponential profile gets very close to the perfect one, providing exceptional dispersion.
-
BOUNDARY FREE SURROUND
This technology provides the ability to achieve a wider emission surface of the cone compared to speakers with the same diameter; that way, the cone manages to move a bigger mass of air, so it produces more acoustic pressure. This special surround is built from highly pure IIR butyl rubber, ensuring extraordinary thermal and mechanical linearity.
